Is the Baseball Season too long?
In America, the sport of baseball is legendary, some calling it “America’s Game.” It is beloved throughout the country being played and watched by kids and adults alike. For some, it doesn’t matter what kind they watch, they can watch peewee, high school, college or professional, they just love the sport so much. However, in a poll by Gallup is no longer “America’s Game. They say that football is the real “American Game” and baseball has been dipping in popularity since the 70’s (Gallup).
This could be due to the slow nature of game and its long, drawn out season (The MLB plays 162 games plus playoffs). Not everyone wants to watch a four to five hour game 162 times in one year. A lot of people only watch parts of the season. Will Sibley said that he only watches the second half of the season because “that’s when it gets important” and casual baseball fan Carter Dunn said that he just likes to watch the first few weeks because it’s relaxing.
However, there still are the die hard baseball fans such as Ryan Sloyer who watches as many games as he can and is especially excited for the playoffs. “It’s America’s Game” he said.
While some people have never sat through an entire game, baseball is important to some people because it’s way to spend their time relaxing and for others it’s an exciting game to watch and enjoy.
