Crumbl cookie is a chain bakery that provides different flavors of cookies every week. Since their opening in 2017, business has been very successful. There are now over 1,000 stores in all 50 states, Canada, and Puerto Rico. I decided to do a review specifically the week of Oct. 27- Nov. 2 because of the social media popularity the fall flavors gained. The flavors for the week were Semi Sweet Chocolate Chunk, Pumpkin Cake, Halloween Cake Batter Blondie, Dirt Cake, Peanut Butter featuring Reese’s Pieces, and Blue Monster featuring Chips Ahoy.
I started first with the Semi Sweet Chocolate Chunk cookie. I did not initially have high expectations for it because I didn’t see how they could wow me with a basic chocolate chip cookie. When I took my first bite, I reacted first to the soft interior of the cookie, while still being able to maintain a harder and more crunchy outside. As someone who isn’t a fan of chocolate, I was surprised to taste that the large chocolate chunks didn’t overpower the rest of the cookie and make it too chocolate-y or sweet. On a scale of one to ten, I gave it a seven and a half. There isn’t a ton of creative room when making a chocolate chip cookie, but this one was done well.
Dirt Cake is described on the website as “A chocolate cookie coated in Cookies & Cream crumbs, swirled with fudge frosting, sprinkled with crunchy chocolate streusel, and finished with a gummy worm!” But to be honest, I was only excited for the gummy worm. The first thing I noticed after my first bite was the softer consistency throughout the entire cookie, which was very nice. Like most of my experience with Crumbl Cookies, I again felt the frosting was overpowering the flavor of the actual cookie and making it too sweet. A positive I found was the cookies & cream crumbles, which tasted really good and were a nice texture decision. My ranking for this cookie is a four and a half out of ten. My bias against chocolate definitely swayed my vote, but the gummy worm bumped my score for it by a half point. I, however, can see how people who do have a strong love for chocolate can enjoy this cookie and encourage people who do have this love to try it.
The Pumpkin Cake caught my eye because, as the name suggests, it looks like a cake instead of a cookie. I immediately loved this cookie after my first bite. The soft, cakey consistency paired well with the natural sweetness of the buttercream frosting. The two flavors complimented each other instead of one overwhelming the flavor. I noticed that the frosting was not artificial tasting to me and was more rich, which I really appreciated. This cake is also perfect for the fall season as the weather starts to change. I gave this cookie a nine out of ten for everything I liked about it.
I was skeptical about the Halloween Blondie because I heard that there were marshmallows inside and wasn’t sure I would like it. Yet after my initial bite, all doubts were lost. The soft marshmallows really compliment the dough and bring a perfectly sweet touch to the dough. The addition of sprinkles around the rim of the cookie was a nice contrasting texture to the gooey marshmallows. The harmony of the soft marshmallows and the crunchy sprinkles brought my score to a eight and a half out of ten. I put it lower than the Pumpkin cake because of the formers superior seasonal flavoring.
The next cookie I tried was Chips Ahoy’s Blue Monster Cookie. From above, it looks like a huge Chip’s Ahoy cookie with blue frosting. I was, again, scared that the frosting would be too sweet but was pleasantly surprised at my first bite when it provided a creamy texture on top of what tasted exactly like a Chip’s Ahoy cookie. The mini chocolate chips inside of the cookie kept the nice chocolate flavor found in the originals. What sets this cookie apart is that the frosting is used more as a texture device instead of a flavor device. It was topped with an originally sized Chip’s Ahoy cookie, which added a nice crunch. I ranked this cookie as an eight out of ten. I’m not a huge fan of Chip’s Ahoy cookies, so I didn’t expect much but was shocked at how much I enjoyed this cookie.
I was excited for the Reese’s Pieces collaboration, which had Reese’s Pieces candies sprinkled throughout and peeking out of the top. This cookie immediately grabbed my attention as a peanut butter lover and kept it by bringing together amazing textures and flavors. The candies hard shell contrasted against its buttery inside and the chewy dough and brought together an amazing texture. This cookie is served warm, which made the peanut butter taste even better. I gave this cookie a ten out of ten and would recommend it to anyone without a peanut allergy. Its rare that I love a crumbl cookie this much, but this one deserves the perfect score.
When online influencers said that this was the best Crumbl Cookie lineup, they were not lying. There is something for everyone in this box. There is only one cookie I didn’t thoroughly enjoy. I even liked the Chocolate Chunk, which is hard since it has been done so many times before. I do think that the Dirt Cake was just not for me personally; however, I can see other people loving it. For those reasons, I feel like none of these cookies are necessarily “bad”, just that some are not for me. My ranking of the cookies in order is Peanut Butter featuring Reese’s Pieces, Pumpkin Cake, Blue Monster featuring Chip’s Ahoy, Halloween Cake Batter Blondie, Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chunk, and Dirt Cake. Overall, I really enjoyed trying and rating these cookies and strongly encourage you to go and get some for yourself!
