Lightfoot Restaurant, located in Downtown Leesburg, is not only a staple in the dining scene, but is rooted in history. Built in 1888, it was named in honor of Francis Lightfoot Lee, a native of Leesburg, who was Virginia’s representative in the signing of the Declaration of Independence. It served as the People’s National Bank for half a century before two sisters, Ingrid and Carrie Gutvason, saved it from disrepair and opened it as a restaurant in 1999.

Prior to opening the restaurant, Ingrid, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in New York, owned a successful catering company. Together with her sister Carrie, they returned to Virginia and opened Lightfoot Cafe on West Market street. It was a huge success and ultimately convinced the sisters to expand and purchase the People’s National Bank building. After significant renovations, Ingrid and Carrie began what would soon become a beloved component of Downtown Leesburg.

The building’s history is still evident in the elaborate woodwork and ceilings, Corinthian columns, and original bank-vault doors. Under the 44 foot high ceilings, Chef Ingrid serves New American cuisine with southern and ethnic accents. The menu holds several popular dishes including the Fried Green Tomatoes, Blue Ridge Spinach salad, and “Atomic” Crab Cake, along with an award winning wine list.
