People often try to ignore the worst things that happen in the world, unless it affects them, but sexual assault is not something to shy away from.  This is especially true when it comes to the injustice that faces the victims of rape.  This has been happening and it is still happening, rape is not something that will go away when ignored.

Statistics of number of victimized people each year.

The largest anti-sexual violence organization is the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network (RAINN).  RAINN is dedicated to the prevention and treatment of sexual violence.  RAINN has stated that 593,148 people are victimized each year in the United States, but keep in mind that sexual violence is one of the hardest things to track.  This number includes inmates, children, the general public, and the military.

While many sexual assaults tend to lean more towards women, men are victimized as well.  1 out of 10 victims of rape are men and 9 out of every 10 are female.  Many should know that there is a stigma surrounding sexual assault.  This stigma prevents many from speaking up about an assault.  This stigma makes it seem like men can not be sexually assaulted.  This can prevent men from being as conscious about their surroundings as women.  Women grow up with the idea that they are most likely going to be in more danger.
