HOMECOMING: Song Spotlight 10/13

Right from the start, Homecoming by Kanye West infects you with its contagious, head bopping beat.  Featuring Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Homecoming was the result of a session between the two after Kanye visited Abbey Road studios and saw Martin performing.  An extended metaphor about his love for his hometown Chicago, Homecoming is an ode to his youth and his relationship with The Windy City.  The song is often confused for being a love song about a girl called “Wendy”, but Ye is actually referring to the city of Chicago by saying “windy”.  Kanye quickly removes confusion with the line, “If you don’t know by now I’m talking about Chi-town.   As the song comes to an end West reminisces on his good times as a kid and he states his desire to go back and have a fresh start.  Despite the lighthearted beat and chorus, Homecoming has a twinge of regret as Kanye looks back on his decisions as a younger man and what he wishes he would have done differently.
