Keenan Anderson,  a 10th grade English teacher at Digital Pioneers Academy PCS, lost his life on January 3rd, 2023 at the age of 31 to yet another case of police violence. Anderson´s death makes him the third person that has been killed this year during

police encounters in Los Angeles.

Officers choked, beat, and tased him to death.  Footage has been released in which Anderson was heard saying ¨they are trying to George Floyd me.¨ Hearing those words evokes emotional images  for many people who witnessed George Floyd’s death in police custody.

Anderson was tased multiple times as he is telling the officers ¨I am not resisting.¨ In the video you can also hear the taser beep alerting that the person being tased is in danger.  The officer ignored the alert and continued tasing him, which might have contributed to his cardiac arrest.  Anderson was tased with 50,000 volts of electricity 6 times, each for more than 5 seconds. That totals to 300,000 volts of electricity running through his body for an extended period of time. He did not pass away at the scene but four and a half hours later at a hospital from a ¨medical emergency¨.

This incidence has  captured the attention of many people through social media.

Anderson´s cousin and Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors quickly went to social media letting the world know that her cousin’s death was a murder, not an accident. Cullors said,¨Keenan deserves to be alive right now, his child deserves to be raised by his father. Keenan we will fight for you and for all of our loved ones impacted by state violence. ¨
