Chloe Humphrey, an elite athlete, has made a major impact on the game of women’s lacrosse. Humphrey was born and raised in Darien, Connecticut, a town on the smaller side. Humphrey started playing lacrosse in 5th grade and knew from the start that she wanted to make something out of it. Chloe’s career had just started.
Although Humphrey’s high school season didn’t go as planned (due to covid), she still made a name out of herself. Chloe attended Darien High School and gained many titles throughout her high school career. Humphrey was ranked the number 1 recruit in the class of 2023 according to Inside Lacrosse. According to goheels.com, Humphrey was honored with some of these accomplishments: the 2023 USA Lacrosse High School Player of the Year, 2023 USA TODAY National Player of the Year, Two-time All-American, 2023 USA Lacrosse Northeast Girls Player of the Year, and earned a spot on the U.S. Women’s U20 National Training Team 2. These remarkable accomplishments were achieved in a high school season where playing lacrosse was challenging during a pandemic. According to goheels.com, as a senior, Humphrey had 103 goals, 38 assists, 30 caused turnovers, 42 ground balls and 69 draw controls.
As a top recruit, and elite athlete, Humphrey committed to top ranked school University of NC (UNC). Unfortunately, freshman year, Humphrey suffered an injury to her foot. Due to being a top athlete, she made the decision to redshirt, sitting out a season without giving up NCAA eligibility, for the 2024 season. Thus, Humphrey did not compete in any NCAA competition her freshman year, and Humphrey knew what she had to do to get back on track. Although the injury was in the foot, which made doing regular day things hard, she did not give up there.
Continuing to make a legacy of the Humphrey family, Chloe Humphrey came back stronger than ever. She continued her career by playing for the Tar Heels in the 2025 Season. Humphrey played 22 games and started in all of them. Humphrey finished the 25’ season with 90 goals, 28 assists, and 2 draw controls according to UNC Women’s Lacrosse. She ended up breaking the NCAA all time freshman record. She also broke the UNC single season record for goals. Overall, Humphrey had a huge influence on the Tar Heels record and assisted in leading them to the NCAA championship to win 22-0 against Northwestern.
Humphrey has made a huge impact on the game of women’s lacrosse. Young female athletes aspire to be like Humphrey. With her hard-working personality, determination, and dedication to the game, she has helped many women’s lacrosse players with their confidence. Humphrey has so much talent that has motivated many young athletes to want to become like her. No matter the setbacks, she does not give up. Whether it’s injury or illness, she always works hard to make sure she’s the best version of herself.
