Joshua Van is one of the most exciting young fighters in the UFC today. Competing in the flyweight division (125 lbs), Van has quickly gained attention for his slick boxing and quickness inside the cage. Born in Myanmar and later moving to the United States, his journey to the UFC is a powerful story of hard work, discipline, and determination. Even though he is still early in his professional career, Joshua Van has already proven that he belongs among the world’s best fighters.
Joshua Van was born on October 10, 2001, in Myanmar. When he was young, his family moved to the United States, where he eventually settled in Texas and even now he expresses his desire to fight in Texas. Like many fighters, Van did not have an easy path to follow with his smaller stature. Adjusting to a new country and culture presented challenges, but these experiences helped shape his mental toughness and insane drive. He discovered mixed martial arts as a way to learn self defense after being bullied as a kid. After training for a few years, he had his amateur debut in December of 2020, and he has been on a generational run.Â
Van made his UFC debut in 2023 and immediately showed why he was signed. Despite his youth, he fought with confidence and composure against experienced opponents such as Bruno Silva and Brandon Royval in a fight of the year contender. Van is known for pushing the pace and breaking his opponents down over 3 rounds with his slick boxing and amazing cardio. His ability to absorb hits and keep moving forward has impressed both fans and commentators. Each fight of his has shown growth, and he has a long career ahead. With Joshua only being 24 and already being a champion in the UFC, he has the potential to be the greatest of all time in his division.
Currently, Joshua Van is set to fight Tatsuro Taira who is another very talented young fighter in the flyweight division. Originally this fight was set to be for UFC 327 in Miami but due to a minor injury, Joshua Van had to pull out of the fight leaving UFC 327 without a co-main event worthy of a numbered event.  Although many people thought that someone was going to fill in for Joshua Van, the fight was instead pushed back to UFC 328 in Newark, New Jersey. Even though this wasn’t Van’s fault, he is still getting a lot of backlash on TikTok and Instagram for pulling out of this fight with many fans saying he just wants to keep the belt a little longer, therefore, implying that many people think he will lose the fight. A lot of this backlash also comes from the way he won the belt in the first place, which was by injury rather than an impressive knockout or decision. Despite all of this, Van still has a strong fan base behind him at all times in his UFC career.

In conclusion, Joshua Van represents the talent of the new generation of fighters: young, hungry, and driven to succeed. His journey from Myanmar to the UFC is inspiring and shows what is possible through perseverance and dedication. While his career is still unfolding, he has already made a strong impression on the sport by being the second youngest champion of all time. As he continues to develop and face tougher opponents, fans will be watching closely. Joshua Van is not just a young fighter, but a champion with massive potential and a promising career.
